Stewart Whitty -longliner in Nova Scotia
I’m really impressed with the sharpness and the set in the hooks.
I tried your hooks last year on a couple tubs of gear and they held up great. I liked how sharp they were.
I longline for Halibut off of Nova Scotia.

Al Dampier -owner of Lurecharge (fishing gear producer and dealer in British Columbia)
After years of frustration from snapping stainless hooks, I stumbled onto Qi hooks. I can say with absolute honesty that I have been using these exclusively for 3 years on my production of lures and not one customer complaint. They are a good balance of temper. You can open and close the eyes several times without having them break and they are sharp! Thank you, Michael.

"Qi hooks are sharper, better and cheaper."

"I started buying Qi hooks a few years ago. now I only buy Qi hooks."

"These are the best hooks. They don't break when I crimp them on the gear. They are sharp right out of the box. I use both the 'blued' and bright hooks for different species."

"I've used Qi Hooks long-lining for some time and I like them better than Mustad. They last a lot longer and don't get brittle and because they're malleable they're easier to bend back into shape."

What's your favorite curved point or non curved point stainless hook. The Mustad 95170's I use seem to be more prone to crevice corrosion than they used to be. I am looking for an alternative to 5/0 Mustad 95170's.

Remember in 2013, the Mustad 95170 snapped when the barb was bent down. A little piece of the barb was left. I got caught by Coast Guard in one of their joint task force enforcement operation over this issue. Fortunately, I was outside state waters and the infraction was relayed to NOAA. The NOAA officer was more knowledgeable and understanding of the situation; i.e. I made the best attempt to bend the barb down, that the ignorance Coasties.
As a result, I investigate why this happens (barb snapping instead of bending). After talking with Pacific Net and finally Mustad, I learned the Sweds continue to make the metal stock, BUT moved the bending and annealing process to China. The Chinese couldn't get the annealing (cooling the metal down) process down which caused the hooks to be brittle.
As a result, I looked at all the available manufactures and found Qi hooks (pronounced Chi). Great hooks! I was able to go from Mustad 5/0s to Qi 7/0 without effecting the spoon or hoochie performance. The best feature of the Qi straight hook, verses the claw point, is the distance from the hook's point to the throat is about .25" longer. I believe I loose fewer fish because there is more hook keeping them on.
I'll never go back to Mustad. Check out Englund Marine as a source who sells Qi hooks.
